Makna Mantra Melaut Suku Bajo

Abstract

Mantra adalah salah satu genre puisi lama yang pembacaannya dimaksudkan untuk menimbulkan efek magis atau kekuatan tertentu. Mantra, dalam pandangan masyarakat Bajo, diyakini dapat memberikan kekuatan demi pencapaian tertentu terhadap suatu tujuan. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap makna yang terkandung dalam mantra melaut suku bajo. Data yang dianalisis terdiri atas dua mantra, yaitu mantra untuk memasang pukat dan mantra untuk mengatasi badai. Analisis yang dilakukan menggunakan teori semiotik menurut pandangan Michael Riffatere. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa secara umum teks mantra melaut suku Bajo memiliki hubungan yang dekat dengan teks Alquran. Artinya, penciptaan mantra melaut mendapat inspirasi dari kandungan teks Alquran.

Abstract:
Spell is one of the old poetry genres that is used to raise particular power or magical effect. Spell, in the view of Bajo society, is believed giving a power to reach particular desire. This research is aimed to explore the meaning that is contained in Bajo society’s spell when going to sea. In this study, there are two spells analyzed, spell when going to put on seine and spell when going to handle the sea storm, by using Michael Riffatere’s semiotic theory. The result of this study shows that generally texts in the spell have a close relationship with Quran. It means that the making of spell when going to sea takes inspiration from Quran.
